Well everyone, this is the last comic in the second chapter of Gorilla in the Midst and also the 48th to be added to the site since I started! A new chapter starts next week, so stay tuned to see what kind of antics Gus, Hilda, Chuckles, Chester and Carl get up to! Thanks for all the support in my first few months!
Hi loyal readers! Earlier in this series of comics, I mentioned that I had a prof in art school who essentially acted as an editor for these very comics. I mentioned that he was blatantly wrong about this comic. Well, there was an incident where it was a very good thing that he was there. If he hadn’t been, I’d hope someone would have caught it. The original answer to Hilda’s question “what’s that thing” was “My anti-gay gun,” which this ‘editor’ thought sounded like a gun to, well, kill gay people, which was absolutely NOT how I intended it. I certainly hope it comes off the way I intend it to in the revised version, which is that it’s a ray gun that keeps away some sort of essence of ‘gayness’ that might try to invade Chuckles’ and turn him gay. Of course reading this out of context of the rest of the story wouldn’t make any sense at all, but I do think it does (even though I don’t have an actual editor) if you read this series of comics right from the beginning. This is the 23rd of 24, so it might take you a while, but I’m sure you’ll have some laughs in the meantime! 🙂
So it looks like I’ve made a decision of sorts. Since I began this comic I’ve never been quite sure where it was set. I’m Canadian and I’ve lived my whole life in Canada, but I’m a child of American, British and yes, even Canadian Pop Culture (I even know all the words to the theme song of the CBC sitcom King of Kensington! – okay, I’m a bit old…). I also have an interest in world politics and if one has such an interest, American politics has got to be front and centre (yeah, that’s how we spell centre in Canada!). In light of this I’ve thought maybe the strip is set somewhere in the US, or maybe it’s in Canada, where we do talk about American issues a bit. Well, in this strip I’ve made Chuckles a “True Republican”, so I guess that means the strip is set in the good ole’ United States of America? Can I do that? I’ve never lived there. Mind you, I’ve lived most of my life in Winnipeg, which is an hour from the border. So maybe I’m allowed to set the strip in North Dakota? I’ve been there a number of times! Maybe Minnesota? I have a fondness for Minneapolis! Hmmmm… maybe it’s just set somewhere in the US. Or, well, maybe Chuckles is an American living in Canada? Maybe we’ll never know? I’m rambling now, so enough of this.
On another note, I’ve finally added chapters to the site, so you you can now read this and the previous story-line from the beginning! Yay! Thanks to my wife Anne for figuring out how to do that for me. Should’ve had her look at it a long time ago…
